Of Research on the Myers - Briggs Type Indicator

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator has become the most widely used personality instrument for nonpsychiatric populations (DeVito, 1985; Lynch, 1985). Companies like American Telephone and Telegraph, Exxon, General Electric, Honeywell, and Transamerica employ the Myers-Briggs indicator in their management development programs where the focus is on improving decision-making and building effective teamwork and appreciation of the different perspectives from which different members of the corporate team view their world and their decision making (McCrae & Costa, 1989; Moore, 1987). Approximately 300 studies of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator are cited by B w s (1965, 1978) and over 1500 studies are included in the latest edition of the Myers-Briggs indicator manual (Myers & McCadey, 1985). The indicator is also available in a Spanish translation (Levy & Padilla, 1982). The research on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as a psychometric instrument and as an expression of Jung's typology was reviewed and some of its modern applications considered.
